Itinerary:
This tour first takes you to Ueno and to the statue of Takamori Saigo, whose last stand against the Meiji government was the basis for the Hollywood movie The Last Samurai.
Next you will visit the intricate Toshogu Shrine, an original building dating back to 1627, as well as Tokyo National Museum (the city's largest and oldest museum).
Next is Kan-eiji Temple, the most important Buddhist monastery of the Tokugawa era and site of the Battle of Ueno.
The tour will then continue on to the tranquil Yanaka area of Tokyo, with it's famous cherry-tree-lined cemetery houses the grave of Yoshinobu Tokugawa, Japan's last shogun. Finally stop by the well-known Isetatsu Japanese paper shop. A family-run establishment that has been selling its decorative paper products since the Edo era.
